West Ashley Dad Receives Record 17th Consecutive Neck Tie for Christmas

A West Ashley man shattered his previous Christmas record this morning by receiving a neck tie as a Christmas present for another year. Jim Walters has received a neck tie from his family for Christmas for 17 consecutive years, and so far the streak shows no sign of stopping. The newest addition will be added to Jim’s massive collection of ties in his closet that he never wears.

Christmas morning began with Jim’s wife and children opening their presents which collectively cost $2,000. After cleaning up, Jim finally had to ask if his family had any gifts for him, only for his daughter to realize it was still in her car. After retrieving it from her car’s trunk, where it had been smooshed under a case of beer, they finally gave it to Jim. He did his best to fake a smile when he discovered it was another tie.

21-Year-Old Son Adam Walters discussed the challenges of buying the right gift for his dad. “Dad is kind of hard to buy a gift for,” he said. “When I asked him what he wanted, he said he wanted a new Weber grill. Those things are like $600 and there’s no way in hell I’m wasting my afternoon putting that thing together. That’s when I just decided to leave it up to my sister on what to buy. She’s better at making decisions and remembering to do stuff.”

23-Year-Old Daughter Jenny Walters said the decision to buy a tie for her father was a no-brainer. “As soon as I walked into the Citadel Mall, I was like ‘I’m not dealing with this shit show’, so I bought the first neck tie I saw and got the hell out of there. I was also running late to meet my friends at Pearlz for drinks, so I didn’t want to waste any time.”

Jim said he saw the neck tie coming from a mile away. “After 16 years of getting the same gift, you know it when you see it,” he said. “Every year it’s a medium-sized gift bag with a white rectangular box popping out the top. I don’t know why they keep buying me ties every year. I work from home. At least this one has paisleys on it. I don’t think I have that one yet.”

Next year Jim’s children will mix it up by buying him a gift card to a design your own neck tie website. Jim will attempt to sell it on eBay to raise money for his new grill.

    I keep getting socks.

  2. A necktie would be a refreshing change from the family photo I receive every year.
