Mt. Pleasant Plans Benefit For Teen Blinded By Wearing His Hair Over His Eyes

Mount Pleasant will be holding a charity benefit to assist a local teenager who cannot see because he wears his hair over his eyes. Chris Salzer has dealt with partial blindness for the last two years because he refuses to get an adequate haircut.

Chris’ hairstyle has hindered his reading, which has caused him to fail English and attend summer school. He’s also struggled to meet girls because he looks like a Chewbacca-in-training.

Chris’ mother is relieved her son will be receiving some help. “He’s just constantly flipping his hair out of his eyes, but it falls right back down. He’s always walking into walls because he can’t see anything. It’s dangerous.”

Chris believes he doesn’t need any help. “Why is everyone spazzing about my hair?” he said. “I like it this way, and it’s my right wear it any way I want. This is still America, isn’t it?” Chris then placed his phone under his hair so he could see it.

The charity benefit will feature a One Direction cover band and balloon animals. The funds raised will be used to get Chris a seeing eye dog and a walking stick.
